Fredrik Colting is the inventor of the Tikker Watch, a digital wristwatch which calculates the wearer’s life expectancy down to remaining seconds, based on various health questions and their age! That watch is supposed to help the wearers make the most of their remaining time rather than wasting it so they can live their life to the utmost! Of course, it cannot predict fatal unexpectant accidents, which may occur to almost anyone. Besides that the Tikker watch ads recommends worthless earthly pursuits and views death as a secular humanist would, which is typical from a spiritually dark point of view.
Because the fear of death is almost universal among the unrighteous, but not the righteous because of Jesus’ death on the cross, the Tikker watch will probably never be a best seller:
Since the children have flesh and blood, he [the Lord Jesus] too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death–that is, the devil— and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. (Heb 2:14,15)
We Christians know what will happen after a righteous person dies, that is, he will consciously and immediately go into Paradise and the holy presence of God (2 Cor. 5:8; Phil. 1:21,23). The extreme opposite place is awaiting the multitudes who die in their sins. A fiery tormenting environment, prepared for the devil and his angels (Mt. 25:41), will be occupied by most humans (Mt. 7:13,14)! These stirring facts should help motivate all Christians to spread the gospel, with the various conditional security terms for believers (1 Cor. 15:2; 1 John 2:24-26; etc.).
Time Is Ticking Away
The Tikker watch is definitely correct in one way — that we need to be mindful of our remaining days, which can’t be retrieved once it is gone. Wasting precious time trying to enjoy our earthly life to the full is antithetical to the Biblical message. We are to be servants, doing the will of God and laboring in his vineyard! Though not ear tickling, that is the Biblical message (1 Thess. 1:9; Mt. 20:1-16; Lk. 8:21; etc.). So in one way, this watch will help people become more aware that we all have a terminal disease and have been issued a type of death sentence according to Heb. 9:27.
Our Death Is Approaching
We all need to prepare to stand before a HOLY God with a pure heart so we can see him (Mt. 5:8). Maintaining heart purity should be the primary goal of all Christians (1 Tim. 5:22; 1 Peter 1:14; Heb. 12:4), as the devil will surely do his best to deceive and lead astray the godly. Another main goal should be exalting the Lord Jesus with our life and death (Phil. 1:20). Think Judgment Day and plan for your certain physical death and eternal existence beyond the grave. We shouldn’t need this watch to remind us of our approaching death, since we have the Holy Bible, a more sure word than God’s audible voice (2 Pet. 1:18,19).
