Gary Wilkerson Carries On David Wilkerson’s Apostate Teachings

In times past, David Wilkerson was a solid holiness preacher who influenced multitudes of people, especially the Pentecostals. gary wilkerson Before his death in April 2011, David Wilkerson had already long changed and was not the same kind of preacher he once was! No doubt he adversely influenced his trusting audience, which included the Times Square Church congregation in New York, as well as World Challenge! David Wilkerson’s license for immorality teachings now live on through Carter Conlon, and through his own son, Gary Wilkerson! This teaching will focus in upon the once saved always teaching of Gary Wilkerson, of World Challenge.

Have You Been Set Free

Skull and CrossbonesGary Wilkerson did a teaching on October 15, 2012 entitled, Have You Been Set Free, which is gushing with the once saved always saved eternal security heresy, without using those identifying terms. For some who aren’t acquainted with the major heresies of our day, his teaching might slip by unrecognized. So, what exactly did Gary Wilkerson teach? Read these excerpts carefully (all bold emphasis is my own):

Christ offers the same words to all of us who fret about our spiritual lives: Don’t be anxious. It doesn’t matter how broken down and teetering you feel about your walk with him; he declares, “You are a new creation.” The moment you chose to follow Jesus, he made you new — and that never changes. Even when you think you’ve strayed too far, Jesus says the opposite….

Jesus doesn’t abandon us in our sin.

Gary Wilkerson uses a well-known Biblical phrase about being set free, but misapplies it into something totally different to teach a license to sin:

Perhaps at times you even question your salvation. Friend, that isn’t freedom. So what does it mean to really be set free in Christ?

What Exactly Is Jesus’ Freedom Teaching

Below is the actual Biblical passage, which has been misapplied by Gary Wilkerson:

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:31-36)

Clearly, Jesus is speaking of slavery to sin and being set free from it by the Son himself, which occurs at the point of true salvation! Therefore, if a person allegedly gets saved, but is not set free from his sin addictions, he didn’t truly get saved at all. [Paul taught the same in Rom. 6:16-18; 6:20-22.] That basic Christian truth, however, is definitely NOT how Gary Wilkerson uses that phrase!

His godly work in us never stops, even when we stop being godly!

Paul doesn’t mince words here as he describes his condition: “I am of the flesh. I do evil all the time. No good dwells within me.”

Folks, Gary Wilkerson presents a shocking and dangerously twisted unholy image of a Christian as the genuine. What Gary Wilkerson taught is NOT what the Bible says about Paul, as a Christian or about any Christian! Paul was a holy, righteous and blameless man (1 Thess. 2:10), who would beat his body and make it his slave so that after he preached to others, he himself would not be castaway. (1 Cor 9:27)

To teach a freedom message which is a freedom from concern about sin and its effects, is demonic. Gary Wilkerson’s teaching is a fabricated, mythical unchanging righteous standing before God, regardless how often and severely one yields to sins:

So, what is on my to-do list to be righteous? Nothing. I am to work out my salvation with fear and trembling, but I do so in freedom — because the righteous requirement of the law has been fulfilled. I no longer have to barely hang on to Jesus; he has filled me with his own Spirit. And there is no longer any condemnation toward me because he has fulfilled the righteous requirement of the law. Nothing is required anymore; he has met all my requirements for being justified, made holy and righteous.

Are you anxious? Haunted by your failures? Do you wonder, “Is there really such a thing as freedom for me? Is there deliverance? Does this Christian life even work?” Jesus answers: “You have been set free.” That’s not some Pollyanna-ish, otherworldly truth, but a reality God declares about you. It’s the story he tells the devil about your life when the accuser comes.

Gary Wilkerson’s “freedom” teachings to others are just like the kind we are warned about in 2 Peter 2:18,19 regarding false teachers:

For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of sinful human nature, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. They promise them FREEDOM, while they themselves are slaves of depravity–for a man is a slave to whatever has mastered him.

The real Jesus of the Bible will spue Christians out of his body for being lukewarm (Rev. 3:16), disown others who disown him (Mt. 10:33; 2 Tim. 2:12), have the unforgiving tortured (Mt. 18:23-35) and taught the Father will sever all Christians who are unfruitful from him and cast them into the fire! That my dear friend is NOT the impression you will get from Gary Wilkerson’s teaching, Carter Conlon or David Wilkerson from 2006 to his death! david wilkerson churchDo NOT be deceived. World Challenge is not sound. We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly till the end the confidence we had at first. (Heb 3:14) Do you know how to stay saved?

Judges Who Accept Bribes and God Who Doesn’t

It is very disturbing to observe any form of injustice, but that is a definite part of this sinful age. One day it will be much different, but the disturbing truth is, justice is too often perverted. Judges who accepted bribes and perverted justice for money do exist! One example was Judge Abel Limas:judge abel limas

Some have called it one of the most disturbing scandals ever in Cameron County. It’s a scandal that captured national headlines. State District Judge Abel Limas, County District Attorney Armando Villalobos and respected lawyers from the Rio Grande Valley and even as far as Austin, indicted by the federal government for an alleged elaborate scheme of bribery and corruption in the courts of the Cameron County justice system. (http://www.valleycentral.com/news/story.aspx?list=~%5Cnews%5Clists%5Crecent&id=821899)

Taking bribes is nothing new. Thousands of years ago, godly Samuel had two sons who accepted bribes and perverted justice:

But his sons did not walk in his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. (1 Sam 8:3)

For judges to yield to bribery results in acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent, which is far from pleasing to God:

Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—the LORD detests them both. (Prov 17:15)

The Judge Who Shows No Partiality and Accepts No Bribes

There are many ways in which God is vastly different from man. One of the ways is, he shows no partiality and accepts no bribes:

For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. (Deu 10:17)

God, the perfect just judge, will only administer accurate justice to all people, including the righteous and poor, who have often been treated unjustly in this life.

YHWH, who is also the God of gods and Lord of lords, knows every thought and hidden motive behind every action! When he gives his ruling, it is accurate and perfectly just, even when it may seem harsh and extreme.

Those Who Go To Hell and Those Who Don’t

All people who are, or will be, thrown into the lake of fire, should be there! No one who shouldn’t be there, will be there! God has made no mistake with them. He knows their hearts, their sins, etc. He knows it all and that is where they should be. The same is true for those who endured persecution for righteous living and inherited God’s kingdom. They inherit the kingdom of God because they qualify, according to the conditions set down by the ultimate and final supreme Judge, who accepts no bribes. That means such overcomers died with a pure heart, as God sees it. So how can one get purified spiritually? Answer: It takes a submissive faith in the Lord Jesus:

He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. (Acts 15:9)

After initial salvation, the battle is to stay pure, which many don’t. The tempting devil will try his best for that to change through sin and is too often successful. That means you are responsible to hold on, keep your lamps burning, endure the hatred and loneliness associated with being righteous, etc. It is up to you, under grace, to keep yourself pure:

Do not share in the sins of others. Keep yourself pure. (1 Tim 5:22)

Sin is still the issue with Almighty God, the Judge who takes no bribes and doesn’t pervert justice! Do you know Jesus NOW?

What Happens After Death

[Bible Question] Shalom! Where go people when they die? We all know that the saints go to paradise, but was the one that was crucified with Jesus a saint? He was saved in the last minute. graveyardSo we never know who is saved or not. Somebody said, if we make it to Heaven, we will be surprised, who is there and who is not there….My mother took me to church when I was a child, she taught me to pray to Jesus. But I went the way of a sinner and was lost. When I was depressed and life was heavy for me, I prayed and the Lord saved me. I went to the Lutheran church, where I found some old lad’s and a pastor who did not know that there was a God at all. I did not speak to anyone. I knew these people were not true believers. I had no bible and I was young and became a backslider. Only after three years I found true believers in another church and began to read the bible and they taught me the word. I stopped drinking alcohol. Through my wife I came to the Pentecostal church. I was baptized in water. But I was ignorant of my sins I had committed. They said if you believe in Jesus, all your sins are forgiven, past, present and future, so I did not repent of my sins. One day I preached in the street in Germany, that I know I’ll go to Heaven. The next morning when I slept I went to hell through the black tunnel into the earth. It was absolute terror. The Lord rescued me, and I thought He has shown me hell. It took two other experiences till I woke up and repented….God bless!

[Bible Answer] Greetings in Jesus’ name. After death, a person immediately goes into the presence of God (if he died a righteous person) or into fiery torment (if he died an unrighteous person). Just as an unrighteous person can become righteous through Biblical repentance and faith in Jesus (Acts 20:21; 1 Cor. 6:9-11), a righteous person can become unrighteous (lost) again by turning to wickedness (Eph. 5:5-7; Gal. 5:19-21; etc), as the prodigal did (Lk. 15:24), but that too can be reversed through repentance.

We know the dying thief entered God’s kingdom after his death because Jesus said he would be with him in Paradise (Luke 23:43). Paradise is up in the third heaven (2 Cor. 12:2,4) or God’s home. He became an instant saint when he was forgiven. That is also when his spiritual identity changed from thief to saint. If one is a saint, he is one this side of the grave and made so by the cleansing blood of the Lord Jesus.

The Lutheran religion is false. (I was raised Roman Catholic, which is a false religion too.) Lutherans actually teach one is forgiven at infant baptism (like the Roman Catholics)! There is not the slightest hint of infant baptism in the entire Bible, yet various denominations believe in that non-Christian practice and some believe that is how to get forgiven! Shocking! Furthermore some of the same falsely claim to go by sola scriptura (the Bible alone), like the Calvinists!

While it is true that God can give dreams, it is also true that the devil can use dreams (and other means like visions, experiences, feelings, etc.) to deceive. Therefore, be careful to base all of your doctrinal beliefs on the written word of God (2 Tim. 3:16,17). Your eternal destiny depends on what you do with the message of the Bible. Go 100% by the Bible. It is God’s eternal truth.

The resurrection refers to our physical bodies being raised incorruptible (1 Cor. 15:52,53). All of the saved (those who have a saving faith in Jesus, which do good and endure to the end) will be of the first resurrection (John 5:29a cf. Rev. 20:4-6; Heb. 3:14; Mt. 10:22; Rev. 2:10,11). The wicked dead will be resurrected too (John 5:29b), but not until after the 1,000 years reign of Christ, then thrown into the lake of fire (Rev. 20:11-15).

God is just. No one will go to eternal fiery torment who shouldn’t be there! If your loved ones did go to fiery torment, they would want their living relatives to repent to avoid such a place, like the rich man did (Luke 16:27-31).

We are now in a worldwide apostasy, which precedes the rise of the Antichrist (2 Thess. 2:1-3). Open and unashamed sin is rampant, even among the professing Christians! The primary accepted gospel in the churches is connected with the heresy of once saved always saved and is powerless to set one free from their sin addictions (Jude 3,4; Rom. 6:22 cf. Col. 2:23). It is a terrible day for all Christians, especially the new converts. However, Christians still have the best this life can offer and a glorious exciting future throughout all eternity! Thank you Jesus! Remember, to reap eternal life one must sow to please the Spirit and not give up (Gal. 6:8,9). God bless you.

Plead The Blood Of Jesus

[Bible Question] Are you familiar with the phrase “Plead the Blood of Jesus?” If so what are your thoughts on the phrase? Regarding ghosts being demonic spirits – YES – I agree – which is also why most people are afraid of them – evidently demonic spirits give off something that causes people to be afraid – what are your thoughts on this? Thank you

[Bible Answer] I’m acquainted with the phrase plead the blood of Jesus. How I have heard it used is with trying to cast a demon out or a prayer answer, but it has absolutely NO Scriptural backing. That is not to lessen in anyway the salvation power in the blood of Jesus, but only means using that phrase is not related to Biblical spiritual warfare, etc. Spiritual warfare is related to prayer, fasting, faith, using the name of Jesus, etc., but never pleading the blood of Jesus. We need to stick to Scripture to get results. Regarding ghosts, I believe people are naturally afraid of the strange, unknown and unpredictable. That is why ghosts are so terrifying to many. GOD BLESS YOU.

The Abolished Dietary and Ceremonial Laws

Unlike the days of Moses, the faithful to God are NOT now under the dietary or ceremonial law stated in the Torah. Among other things, Paul (a faithful Hebrew follower of Jesus) wrote:

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. (Col 2:16)

What an important verse that is in our day for the followers of Jesus. Sadly, with aggressive Saturday Sabbath (especially SDA) proponents and Hebraic Roots type people in abundance trying to convert as many Christians as they can to their false doctrines, Col. 2:16 focuses on false teachings and shows Christians are not under the dietary or ceremonial laws as in Moses’ day. Other verses also collaborate.

Christians Are Not Under The Dietary Law

The first part of Col. 2:16 says we should not let anyone judge us by what we eat or drink. Why? Because Christians are not under any dietary law! Jesus taught:

What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.’ (Mat 15:11)

You would think the Torah people would desist their proselyting after the clarity of that, but they don’t. Wrong words are the problem, not food as in Moses’ day. Eating the ceremonial foods, cited under the Mosaic dietary law, do not strengthen us spiritually.

Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. (Heb 13:9)

But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. (1 Cor 8:8)

The only New Testament restriction related to food is connected with idols, bloody meat and eating blood, which have nothing to do with blood transfusions (as the Jehovah’s Witnesses wrongly say). If a Christian wants to eat pork, rabbit or other meat forbidden in Moses’ day (Lev. 11:6,7), he can do so without sinning! Obeying God is not related to avoiding that type of food anymore.

As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. (Acts 21:25)

See also Acts 15:20, 29.

Christians Are Not Under The Ceremonial Law

Hebraic Roots people say, Didn’t Jesus and his disciples keep the Jewish feast days, such as Passover? Yes, but that later changed, as implied in Col. 2:16 and elsewhere. Christian Scripture says we are not to allow another to judge us over a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day! Paul also taught the Roman Christians:

One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. (Rom 14:5,6)

Such leniency about a special day unto the Lord definitely never existed in Moses’ day. Back then it was the strict Saturday Sabbath alone! Now things are different for God’s faithful who keep his commandments, according to the Holy Spirit, who inspired the New Testament writers. Christians also keep the Passover in a very different and new way, unlike found in the Torah and unknown by Moses:

Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast–as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth. (1 Cor 5:7,8)

Jesus is the Passover lamb and the Passover bread we are to eat now is not tangible bread that we chew. It has nothing to do with Torah regulations! In fact, such Torah regulations are in grave error now!

Spiritual Jew Circumcision

Circumcision, and its importance, is also very different now:

No, a man is a Jew if he is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a man’s praise is not from men, but from God. (Rom 2:29)

It is not as though God’s word had failed. For not all who are descended from Israel are Israel. (Rom 9:6)

The salvation needed now is to be a spiritual Jew. To be a spiritual Jew our heart needs to be changed by the Spirit of God, which occurs when one repents and places his faith in Jesus (Acts 20:21 cf. 2 Cor. 5:17). Mosaic type circumcision has no value anymore religiously! It is the pure in heart who will see God (Mat 5:8)! Paul also stated:

Neither circumcision nor uncircumcision means anything; what counts is a new creation. (Gal 6:15)

Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God’s commands is what counts. (1 Cor 7:19)

1 Cor. 7:19 substantiates the moral law and holy living under saving grace.

The Moral Law

Paul taught and upheld the moral law, but NOT the dietary or ceremonial law! To prove this all one has to do is look up the various times he wrote about not committing idolatry, adultery, murder, bearing false witness, etc. Especially see 1 Cor. 6:9,10; Eph. 5:5-7; Gal. 5:19-21, etc. He also clearly stated he upholds the [moral] law, which saving faith in Jesus doesn’t nullify:

Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too, since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith. Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law. (Rom 3:29-31)

The final death blow to the Hebrew Roots people is what Hebrew Paul warned of under the control of the Holy Spirit:

Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. (Gal 5:2-4)

Christians who convert over to such a belief system will lose their salvation by doing so! Christ will no longer be of any value to such people, who have fallen from grace through such false doctrine. Galatianism has resurfaced its ugly poisonous head in our day and Christians need to be warned, as Paul did. The focus now is to be on the Lord Jesus, not Jewish customs, terms, etc. GOD BLESS YOU.

An Eternal Security NON-Christian Responds

[Bible Comments from a Once Saved Always Saved professing Christian] By what authority do you claim that a Christian addicted to pornography is not a Christian? Adultery is no more of a sin than murder or lying (James 2:10). Do not lead astray those tormented by the sins that they have fallen into! I struggle with my sins, but I am assured of my salvation through Christ. To charge such a thing against the people that contribute to the body of Christ is ignorant. Do not let self-righteousness nor theology become idols to you. I’ve been reading a few posts from your blog and I am deeply confused and disturbed. April 30, 2012: You claim that one can lose salvation!pornographic adultery
You are a false teacher against the very Word of God.
…May the Holy Spirit speak to you because I don’t believe it’s your purpose to blatantly ignore the voice of Jesus. Repent lost believer.

[Bible Answer] The authoritative source I cite which states all people addicted to pornography are on the road to hell is the Bible. Jesus said such people are adulterers (Mt. 5:28) and the next verse says their sin will take them to hell:

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. (Mat 5:29)

Again, that is Jesus’ teaching on mental adultery! If your theology, church, parents, friends, etc. teach otherwise they are wrong. Adulterers are unrighteous (or wicked) people who will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor. 6:9,10), according to Paul. They can be forgiven and set free from their sin addictions, but they must first sincerely repent. Until they do get set free, they may wrongly think they have eternal life, but the truth is they are not Bible-defined Christians. Our experience is, until people like you (the eternal security proponent) realizes his true spiritual condition, he will remain spiritually dead, addicted to sin and on the road to hell, but wrongly thinking he is on the road to heaven! (Unless a lost person knows he needs salvation he will not repent.)

Please know that adultery, murder or lying will all send one to the lake of fire, according to God from his own throne after the infinite work of the Lord Jesus was completed:

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars–their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. (Rev 21:8)

There are no Christian adulterers, Christian murderers or Christian liars! A Christian is a follower of Jesus (John 10:27), a slave of righteousness and God (Rom. 6:16,18,22) and one who is OBEYING Jesus (Heb. 5:9). That doesn’t depict you! You are also described in the first part of the following verse, but wrongly think you will reap eternal life like a totally different group of people:

The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. (Gal 6:8)

The context actually shows what you are doing is a feeble attempt to mock God (Gal. 6:7-9). This is very serious. You are on the road to hell now and need to be forgiven through repentance and a saving faith in Jesus, which OBEYS him. This is Bible truth, but you have been indoctrinated in such a way as to reject Bible truth and think the truth-giver is a lost, false teacher! As with anyone ensnared by a cult, drop all preconceived ideas about God, salvation, etc. and read the entire New Testament for yourself with a willingness to change accordingly. Unless you accept the truth and change accordingly, you will remain spiritually lost, addicted to pornography and in the end will be thrown into eternal fire. Please take this message to heart. You SOUL is in the danger of hell. You can be victorious over sexual temptation. [This page on eternal security will also help you much.]

Ghosts

Especially around Halloween, we hear a lot about ghosts and haunted houses. The Amityville Horror, an infamous house in New York where a person was murdered, was supposed to be haunted with the spirit of a murdered person! Also, at seances the spirit of a deceased person is supposed to be contacted through a medium and said to appear or speak with personal detailed information which seemingly only that person would know! So, how do these things, and ghosts in general, fit in with Scripture? Are ghosts real? What does God’s word say about these things?

Ghosts, Haunted Houses and Seances

When a person dies, if he was murdered or not, his spirit goes immediately into the presence of Almighty God (if he died a righteous man) or into eternal fire (if he died unrighteous). Hence his spirit is not roaming around to haunt houses, graveyards or anything else! However, demons are still very active among us. They do various deceitful things, including formulating doctrinal teachings (1 Tim. 4:1) and possessing certain people (Acts 16:18; etc.). They are directly and heavily involved in witchcraft and spiritism, which includes the use of the Ouija board. Demons want people to believe contrary to the Bible about various issues, including what happens after death, how to get eternal life, etc.
ghost

Be assured that all spirit manifestations in a haunted house, seance or otherwise are demons! Demons are not in the lake of fire yet, as some have been taught! They will be one day, but not yet. At this present time, demons (like the holy angels) have been watching us. Since personal private information is revealed at seances, then demons apparently have access to that information and use it in an effort to deceive. So the mystery is solved. The ghosts in haunted houses, as well as the spirit which manifests at seances, are demons and nothing else.

They Thought They Saw A Ghost

BTW, when the disciples saw Jesus walking on the water, they wrongly thought he was a ghost!

He [Jesus] saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” (Mark 6:48-50)

Furthermore, after his bodily resurrection from the grave, the Lord Jesus appeared to his disciples. At that time, they thought again he was a ghost. Jesus proved he wasn’t and that he resurrected bodily by telling them, Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have:

They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. “Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” (Luke 24:37,39)

Jesus showed them the scars of his own redemptive crucifixion in his glorified body of flesh and bones, as proof that they were not looking at a ghost or spirit. If you are a Christian, don’t be afraid. Christians have power over demons by using the holy name of Jesus (Lk. 10:17-20).

How Do I Stay Saved

[Bible Question] …How do I stay saved?

[Bible Answer] The Bible tells us in many different ways how to stay saved, which are all related to simple obedience to the end! Ponder these:

  • sow to please the Spirit to reap eternal life (Gal. 6:8,9)
  • persist in doing good to get eternal life (Rom. 2:7)
  • endure hatred to the end to be saved (Mt. 10:22)
  • keep making every effort to enter the Kingdom doors (Luke 13:23,24)
  • keep following Jesus (John 10:27,28)
  • bear good fruit (John 15:1-6; Mt. 25:14-30)
  • Keep your lamp burning (Lk. 12:35 cf. Mt. 25:8-12)
  • be believing on Jesus (John 3:18)
  • OBEY Jesus for eternal salvation (Heb. 5:9)
  • hold firmly to the word of God (1 Cor. 15:2)
  • hold firm to the end your confidence (Heb. 3:14)
  • be faithful to the point of death (Rev. 2:10,11)
  • etc.

Ungodly Tolerance With Sin And False Teachers

If you never read the Bible, you probably would tend to think Christians are to always be tolerant with all people, circumstances, teachings, etc. However, when you open God’s word and get exposed to his pure truth, the light shines out. That even includes on the subject of an ungodly tolerance and its dangers!

Ungodly Tolerance With An Adulterous Man

Paul chastised the Corinthians for their misplaced tolerance towards a sexually immoral man in their congregation, who professed to be a Christian brother!

It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that does not occur even among pagans: A man has his father’s wife. And you are proud! Shouldn’t you rather have been filled with grief and have put out of your fellowship the man who did this? (1 Cor 5:1,2)kicked out

But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat. What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? (1 Cor 5:11,12)

All of the grace changers, from Calvinists to the Southern Baptists (with the sole exception of two teachers I’ve read) all say the 1 Cor. 5:1,2 man committing worse sins than pagans do was a saved man! That includes Dave Hunt. It is that dark of a day with so many teaching indirectly that there are Christian adulterers, etc., because of their eternal security doctrine!

Church discipline is what Paul recommended for both the adulterer himself (so that his spirit may be saved, verse 5) and for the whole Corinthian congregation because a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough (1 Cor. 5:6). To allow that openly sexually immoral man to be among the gathering of the saints would spread wickedness in their midst! Hence, their ungodly tolerance was properly addressed. SOULS were on the line and church discipline needed to be administered.

Ungodly Tolerance With A False Prophetess

Unfortunately, that problem at Corinth was not the only time an ungodly tolerance surfaced to the detriment of precious souls. Jesus noted the following in the church at Thyatira:jezebel

Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. (Rev 2:20)

In this case, their ungodly tolerance with a self-proclaim prophetess (whom Jesus called Jezebel) was stumbling God’s servants (Christians) into sexual immorality through her false teachings. To fall into sexual immorality is to get back on the road to hell again and to be in desperate need of repentance for salvation’s sake. That type of ungodly tolerance with a false teacher caused God’s servants to be misled. That is exactly what is happening all over the world via once saved always saved. It is being tolerated because it comes from TV, the radio, through the so-called pastor, Sunday school teacher, parishioners, etc. Consequently, sin is spreading and whole congregations have become adversely affected by that type of spiritual yeast and ruined!

As the Corinthians were to expel the wicked man from among them (1 Cor. 5:13), the people at Thyatira (especially the pastor/s) should have removed that influential woman and so-called prophetess from her teaching position, regardless who she was, how much money she had and/or how large her family might have been! She was a spiritual cancer which needed to be removed for the SAKE OF SOULS. To neglect church discipline under such circumstances is to help seal the eternal damnation of others, who might otherwise repent. We are to keep away from such people. If you have been guilty of these types of ungodly tolerance, change immediately! God can see your sin and SOULS are on the line!

Hand To The Plow and Eyes Straight Ahead

As Jesus traveled around he called certain people to follow him (Mt. 9:9; Mk. 1:17; Lk. 9:59; John 1:43), but in Luke 9:61 a man spoke to him about this and said:

I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family.

As strange as it may seem in our day, the Lord told that same man:hand to plow

No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God. (Luke 9:62)

If the man was going to follow Jesus, it would be similar to plowing a field in that day, which was hard work. That is a good analogy to the Christian life. Furthermore, to be successful at plowing in a straight line (following Jesus) you must keep your eyes on what you are doing. In the Christian life, followers keep their mind on Jesus and on doing God’s will. To look back, for any reason, is to show your primary interests have changed and are now somewhere else less important.

The man’s request in Luke 9:61 seemed to be normal, but Jesus apparently saw something in him which is not obvious to us and which merited his answer. That is why he heard the stirring contents of Luke 9:62 – No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

So was Jesus actually saying if one would looks back after plowing he would be disqualified for reaping eternal life? To answer that, we must find out how important it is to follow Jesus. The findings reveal following Jesus is a salvation issue and NOT anything less important, such as a reward’sissue:

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. (John 10:27,28)

And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. (Luke 14:27)

To be included in Jesus’ spiritual family, one must be his disciple. To be his disciple you must follow (obey) him (Lk. 14:27) and do the will of God:

He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Mat 12:48-50)

That is similar to plowing in the natural, but no one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God (Luke 9:62). Remember that and the requirements for eternal life!
