Self Control – Our Stone Wall Defense

Back in the days of Solomon, when the Holy Spirit inspired him to write Proverbs, it was vital for cities to have a high stone wall surrounding them for protection. broken down walls self-controlThat stone wall was their vital defense against their enemies. A prime example of this is shown with the walls of Jericho, which protected that enemy city, until Joshua and his army did exactly as God commanded for the walls to come crashing down (Joshua 6)! After the walls fell, the city was taken!

To Lack Self Control Is To Be Like A City With Broken Down Walls

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control. (Prov 25:28)

If a person lacking self-control could become a city, that city would have a broken down wall! Therefore, it would have no real defense against its enemies. Such a person would be easy to defeat and destroy! That would make his mortal enemies happy, for he would surely be conquered sooner or later. That means being self-controlled is spiritually vital. Carefully ponder the following substantiating truths:

Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city. (Prov 16:32)

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal 5:22,23)

For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Pet 1:5-11)

Self control is part of the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22,23) and what we are to add to our saving faith in Jesus to make our calling and election sure (2 Pet. 1:5-11)! If you have been like a city with broken down walls (because you lack self control), now is the time to do some very important wall repairs while you still can! God will help you with this, but you must seriously strive to be self controlled! You are battling for eternity. Get serious and fight hard.

Sweet Deadly Poison — The English Yew

Are you a person who likes sweets? If you are like many who do, the English Yew is one sweet you had better stay away from! The English Yew (taxus baccata) is an evergreen with sweet poisonous red berries and is a native to parts of Europe, Africa, Iran and Asia.english yew

The English yew, like all the yews, contains highly poisonous berries which can be fatal to humans if they are ingested without removing the seeds. It is often found in churchyards and the plants live a very long time, often having been there before the churches were. Some suggestions as to why they are near churches are that they were planted at old pagan holy sites, where it was expedient for churches to be built. (http://www.bellarmine.edu/faculty/drobinson/EnglishYew.asp)

False Teacher English Yew Analogy

The beautiful, sweet, red berries of the English Yew are like dangerous false teachers! As the English Yew is “often found in church yards,” the same can be said about poisonous false teachers! To be more precise, many false teachers (the spiritual English Yews) are inside the churches of our day and behind the podiums! They too can be beautiful to look upon, with a very sweet ear-tickling message which is highly poisonous and spiritually fatal to one’s salvation and his relationship with God. So there are English Yews on the outside of many church buildings and spiritual English Yews on the inside. One should automatically know from this, that just going to church is not the key to salvation or anything else! One such bad experience came in from Bill, who shared terrible church experience with a spiritual English Yew.

Test Everyone and Everything

Clearly, Christians are commanded not to be gullible. We are to test, with the Bible (which is final authority and infallible) — all teachings, experiences, dreams, visions, testimonies, etc. This is something you must learn to do for yourself! You can’t just rely upon another, even a trusted loving person, who may be deceived himself! You must learn the Biblical message to identify the beautiful looking and fine-sounding spiritual English Yews, which are so prevalent and respected in our apostate day. They are all over TV, radio, in books, the internet, etc. Please know, any teaching, dream, vision, testimony, experience (including Near Death Experiences) which contradict the Biblical message, especially about salvation, must be flatly rejected and opposed. Don’t tolerate Jezebel like so many are. We are in a battle for eternity and souls. The devil’s kingdom operates on lies and deceptions. That is why GOD’S TRUTH is what the devil hates, like so many sinful people do. Remember as bad as the English Yew is to your health, the spiritual English Yew is much worse! Test everything and everyone with the Bible (1 Thess. 5:21; 1 John 4:1 cf. 2 Tim. 3:16,17)!

English Yew and Marijuana Argument

Soul winners confront all types of people.marijuana Some try to wickedly defend getting high on alcohol or marijuana. In fact, I recently encountered one who was like that! His feeble argument for getting high on marijuana was, “Didn’t God create all the herbs of the field and say his creation was good?” Had he been rational and known about the English Yew, he should have quickly noticed not all of God’s creation is healthy for us to ingest, smoke, etc. Knowing about the English Yew is important for soul winners and all Christians.

A Tree Planted By Streams Of Water

If you have ever seen a tree planted by streams of water, you have noticed a flourishing tree, even during an extended drought! That tree is blessed with more than enough of the essential life-sustaining water needed to thrive. A certain type of person — one who is blessed — can be like that spiritually:

Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. tree by waterBut his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.  (Psa 1:1-3)

The key to become like that blessed fruitful tree, planted by streams of water, is multi-faceted. That person:

  • Doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked. [He doesn’t listen to ungodly advise, according to the Bible.]
  • Doesn’t sit in the seat of mockers. [He himself is not a mocker — generating insults and strife from pride.]
  • Has his delight in the law of the LORD, which he meditates on day and night. [The law of the LORD is Scripture, which is to be obeyed.]

Trees Planted By Streams of Water Prosper

That is how God says anyone can be a fruitful tree planted by streams of water and prospering, but such fruitfulness doesn’t come easy or automatic. Such a blessed person will live a separated life, away from wicked people. He may often be lonely in the natural, but will have blessed fellowship with God wherever he goes. He will love, meditate on and talk about God’s word, for out of the abundance of the mouth the heart speaks (Mt. 12:34). That means such a person knows the Bible message and is serious about acting on it. He is not just a hearer of the word, but a doer of the word (James 1:25). He will have goals, ambitions and desires which seem very strange to most people, because he is trying to please God first. Because he puts God first, some people will be offended by his actions and misunderstand him. There will surely be unjust sufferings and persecutions which come on that blessed, fruitful and godly person, but that is good:

Now if we are children, then we are heirs –heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. (Rom 8:17)

Two Types of Trees

Again, you can be that type of tree, but you must count the cost, pay it and endure.tree by water Since there are only two types of spiritual trees — both being fruit trees — if you aren’t bringing forth good fruit, as God sees fruit, then your end will not be a good one!

Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. (Mat 7:17-19)

It’s fruit or fire, according to God. The horrors of eternal fire include the mysterious worm that does not die and eternal torment! Without JESUS there can be NO FRUIT:

I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

Do you know Jesus NOW?

Christian Singles and Sexual Immorality

When the devil tempts anyone, he surely will never reveal the misery, regret and other pain involved with any type of sin. That truth is important for us all to remember, especially for single Christians looking for a spouse. But what happens when a Christian gives in to sexual temptation? Read the following email for yourself and feel the horrible pain associated with sexual immorality:

I Have Never Felt More Terrible in My Life

… I broke up with my boyfriend and I realized he just used me for my bodily pleasures and when he realized I couldn’t return to him cus I moved onto another country for my further studies he broke up with me.sexually immoral single I have never felt more terrible in my life, that I’ve been used and he never loved me. I feel terrible for leaving the Lord for a guy like him. I was a born again Christian who has backslided and I had sexual relations with this guy. Do you think I have one more chance at salvation?  Could God forgive me for what I’ve done and accept me again…? Do I have another chance?

The good news for backsliders like her is that they can return to salvation and fellowship with God again. The joy of salvation can return (Psa 51:12). The Bible is final authority and error-free and explicitly shows that to be true with the prodigal son and King David. Some teach twice lost, always lost and are unscriptural. James 5:19,20 and Luke 15:24 are clear that such repentant people can become possessors of eternal life again.

Hold On To What You Have

Christian singles (and all Christians) need to hold on to what they have. This is part of New Testament grace. Jesus wasn’t joking or speaking idle words when he taught Christians:

I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.  (Rev 3:11)

Among others, the Tempter (Mt. 4:3) wants to take your crown! Be on your guard!

The Power of God

The power of God is infinite and light years beyond our understanding. It is revealed from the creation of the universe to the new creation in Christ for the believers.gospel dynamite But what is the means or channel through which one can tap into the power of God to get radically changed into a new creation and become righteous in God’s eyes? The Bible clearly says it is the one and only gospel:

I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. (Rom 1:16)

The Greek word (dunamis), used in Rom. 1:16 and translated as power, is the same word we get our English word DYNAMITE from! I like to tell people sometimes that the gospel is the dynamite of God because it will blast one free from their slavery to sin and give him eternal life. That is why the one and only gospel is so important and precious. It is also why the devil, the father of lies, tries to especially distort the gospel to neutralize its unique liberating power!

It is also interesting to note that the same Greek word as used in Romans 1:16 is found in 1 Cor. 1:24, but this time identifies the Lord Jesus as the power (DYNAMITE) of God:

but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (1 Cor 1:24)

When one learns that the focal point of the gospel is the Lord Jesus, it becomes clear why it is the power of God and how precious that message is. The dynamite of God is what people need to hear. Jesus commanded his followers to spread that message to every creature because everyone needs to know this most important truth. IF you are a real Christian, you became one because you heard the one and only gospel, the power of God — the DYNAMITE of God.

The Most Dangerous Job In The World

If you researched the most dangerous job to have, due to fatalities, you would find the list included: commercial fishermen, loggers, aircraft pilots, roofers, steel workers, ranchers, truck drivers, electric power line installers or repairers, construction workers, firefighters, taxi drivers, coal mine workers and police officers.

The Danger Surrounding The Gospel

dangerous job steel worker
There is no doubt that the aforementioned are brave and doing dangerous secular work, but there is another type of unsafe job (given to every Christian), which is even more dangerous! That job and most important spiritual responsibility is to spread the gospel message. That job is unquestionably the most dangerous job in this world, though it is primarily unrecognized because of all the counterfeits in our day! In fact, everything around the true gospel message also carries potential spiritual and physical lethal danger! Bible truth reveals danger exists for:

  • those who try to stop others from hearing the gospel, for they heap their sins up to the limit by doing so (1 Thess. 2:16)
  • those who stop preaching the true gospel to preach a false gospel (Gal. 1:8,9 cf. 2 Pet. 2:1) will be condemned
  • those who preach the true gospel will be persecuted and sometimes unto death, as Stephen was.

Again, all the righteous have been entrusted with the gospel and will account to God one day for that most important trust. It takes courage to be faithful to this trust. (Remember, the cowardly will go to the lake of fire, Rev. 21:8.) What makes the one and only salvation message so valuable is the power that is associated with it for all who receive it — those radically changed by the power of God and set free from their sin addictions. Such new creations in Christ are changed from darkness to light, from death to life and from the power of Satan to the power of God because they acted on the one and only gospel. How the devil must hate the faithful gospel preacher, who preaches the gospel with its conditional security for the believer in Christ:

By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. (1 Cor 15:2)

An imposter, one who claims to be preaching the gospel of grace but isn’t, is declaring a powerless gospel and a false hope. Such a salvation message, which won’t change anyone spiritually and alert them to lethal dangers, is more deadly than poisoned food. Such a counterfeit “gospel” is no gospel at all! Rather than good news, it is only a false and empty hope for salvation. Such preachers are a dangerous snare to one’s soul while he doesn’t endanger his own physical life with such a message. For example, smiley Joel Osteen, who avoids preaching against sin and the vital need to repent, has a large following with his powerless counterfeit gospel. There is a lot of money to be made in false gospel teaching and too many have gone the way of Balaam (2 Pet. 2:15) to get it at the expense of their SOUL!

The primary danger in preaching God’s word is spiritual, though physical danger and martyrdom certainly exist. If one is a Christian, he better spread and protect this one and only message of salvation. If one doesn’t preach the gospel accurately, or not at all to avoid persecution, woe unto him (Gal. 1:8,9;1 Cor. 9:16)! Finally, all who claim to preach the Christian gospel, but distort it somehow, will go to hell just for that single reason (Gal. 1:8,9). Since going to the lake of fire is the greatest danger which exists, preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ is the most dangerous job in the world. It will bring persecution on the faithful here, and if done wrongly will send the preacher to eternal fire! No other dangerous job can compare with gospel preaching.

Donnie Swaggart’s License For Sin

[Bible Question] …Donnie Swaggart made the statement that most would conclude that Peter, because of his denial, he would have went to hell should he have died. donnie swaggartDonnie then went on to say, that is not true. That Peter never lost his salvation and he can prove that. He then sited Luke 22:32 where the Lord told Peter that He prayed that Peter “not lose his faith” Donnie contends that Peter never lost his “faith” in Jesus, therefore he couldn’t have lost his salvation. He went on to say people don’t understand Justification by Faith, that as long as Peter or anyone for that matter, doesn’t stop believing in God/Jesus and what Christ did on Calvary won’t or wouldn’t have lost their salvation. There is something about this that just doesn’t set with me. I understand that Christians can and do sin from time to time that doesn’t cost them their salvation. (As long as they aren’t sins unto death). But to deny the Lord as Peter did, I personally think he very well could have lost his salvation should had he not repented and died. Am I missing something here? Blessings

[Bible Answer] Thanks for your question and pointing this out about divorced Donnie Swaggart’s teachings, as distressing as it was to read. It is terrible to know that Donnie Swaggart (son of Jimmy Swaggart) is another license for immorality teacher, but in our apostate day such are the only ones who make it big in the eyes of man. (People have sought out teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear, 2 Tim. 4:2-4.)

What Donnie Swaggart said ignores other Bible truths related to Peter disowning Jesus. Those other truths clarify that Peter definitely lost his salvation and needed to repent for salvation’s sake. What are those other truths?

Jesus Disowned Peter

We can be absolutely sure that Jesus disowned Peter because he said he would disown anyone who disowns him:peter-disowned-Jesus

But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven. (Mat 10:33)

To deny that Jesus disowned Peter is to call Jesus a liar, which is what the once saved always saved proponents (or anyone) do when they say Jesus didn’t disown Peter! The same can be said for all like Donnie Swaggart, who may say they reject once saved always saved but still teach Peter remained saved. So how serious is it to be disowned by Jesus? To be disowned by Jesus is to no longer be his possession, which Christians are (Gal. 5:24). If we are not his sheep anymore, we are back on the road to hell again. So, just based on Mt. 10:33 alone, Peter lost his salvation when Jesus disowned him, but there is even more truth to substantiate that!

Peter Fell Away

When Peter disowned Jesus, he also fell away! We know that because Jesus told us that is what happened (Mt. 26:31-34). To fall away, as Peter and the others did that night, is to be on the road to hell as the unsaved are. Shocking but true, the biblical evidence reveals that the Apostle Peter fell away fast and it happened when he spoke words related to not being with Jesus and not knowing him! NOTE: the same Greek word translated fall away (or offend) is found elsewhere and the context shows such are dead spiritually. See Mt. 5:29,20; 18:8,9; Mark 9:43,45,47 and 1 Cor. 8:13.

Peter Needed To Be Converted

Jesus prayed that Peter’s faith wouldn’t fail, but Peter would still need to be converted!

But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.  (Luke 22:32, KJV)

Since Peter would have to be converted—the same as a spiritually lost person does to have salvation (James 5:19,20)—then Peter died spiritually when he disowned Jesus and fell away, as the aforementioned proves. Donnie Swaggart is not only wrong, but he is also teaching a license to sin by declaring Peter never lost his salvation when Jesus disowned him. Donnie Swaggart is, therefore, saying there are Christians who disown Jesus, which is impossible.

BTW, no one understood justification by faith more than Jesus and his apostles. The New Testament is their wonderful teachings and such doesn’t allow for Donnie Swaggart’s misuse of Scripture regarding Peter’s denial of Christ! Donnie Swaggart, though on TV, is a dangerous snare to souls at times, just like so many others. Donnie Swaggart would also fail the acid test question:

So that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.  (Titus 3:7)

[Click the following link to hear Donnie Swaggart read a question that came in from a viewer, which he then endeavors to answer with his warped view of justification by faith related to Peter disowning Jesus.] Donnie Swaggart teaches a license to sin.

BTW, if one’s saving faith in Jesus ceases to exist (Lk. 8:13; 1 Tim. 1:19,20; 2 Tim. 2:18; Rom. 11:19-23), he/she will cease to obey. It will be reflected in his words (Mt. 12:35-37), as it was with Peter. That is why after Hymenaeus and Alexander’s faith failed, they blasphemed!

Holding on to faith and a good conscience. Some have rejected these and so have shipwrecked their faith. Among them are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan to be taught not to blaspheme. (1 Tim 1:19,20)

You’re On Candid Camera

Candid Camera with Allen Funt was a TV show of decades ago. candid cameraOn Candid Camera, secret camera shots of people were taken and those same people who were filmed heard, You’re on Candid Camera.

We are all on Candid Camera, but it is God’s candid camera because there is NOTHING done which is secret. God sees everything — the good and bad. Ponder that concept for a minute. You can’t get away with anything! God even knows your motives behind every word and action! You’re on God’s candid camera 24/7/365! There is nowhere you can go to escape God’s candid camera!

No Secret Sin

No one ever got away with sin — no one at any time! There are no secret sins for anyone. When King David sinned with adultery and murder in secret, it wasn’t hidden from God’s candid camera. In fact, God sent Nathan the prophet to David over his secret sins:

“This is what the LORD says: ‘Out of your own household I am going to bring calamity upon you. Before your very eyes I will take your wives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will lie with your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I will do this thing in broad daylight before all Israel.'” (2 Sam 12:11,12)

No Secret Act Of Righteousness

Jesus spoke of acts of righteousness being done in secret which would yield a reward, IF done with the right motive. They don’t escape God’s candid camera either:

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  (Mat 6:3,4)

But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  (Mat 6:6)

so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.  (Mat 6:18)

God Knows Every Detail

God knows how many hair you have on your head (Mt. 10:30; Lk. 12:7) and that insignificant number changes daily! Multiply that infinite knowledge of God times the billions of people on the planet and you have a glimpse of the LORD’s boundless perfect omniscience. Nothing escapes God’s candid camera:

The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. (Prov 15:3)

Since God’s candid camera is on us all, we better find out what he wants and do it. For our own sake, we better do his will for nothing we do, say or even think is done in secret! God’s candid camera has captured it all, even when we think we are alone. God’s candid camera tape which captured sin gets erased when a person gets saved and righteous acts are not remembered when a righteous person backslides:

“I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.” (Isa 43:25)

“But if a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked man does, will he live? None of the righteous things he has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness he is guilty of and because of the sins he has committed, he will die.” (Ezek 18:24)

Remember, you are on God’s candid camera, like it or not!

Chick Tracts Are NOT Sound – BEWARE!

Various religious people, who are involved in Christian evangelism, like Chick tracts because they are illustrated with cartoons. Though the artwork is good, Scripture reveals there are serious problems with Chick’s message. To be more exact, Chick tracts can be a dangerous deadly snare to souls as they teach, at least on occasion:

Chick’s teachings on those salvation related subjects are a spiritual pitfall to precious souls, for whom Jesus died. In Jack T. Chick’s so-called gospel tract “Just One More,” he addresses the dangers of drunkenness, but also has one of the clearest examples of the nauseating powerless easy believism message I have ever been disturbed by!chick tracts In that Chick tract, the question is asked:

What do we have to do to be saved so we can go to heaven?

Chick’s answer is both putrid and spiritually dangerous, based on Scripture:

It’s so simple: just believe Jesus died for your sins, and that He rose from the dead, and receive Him as your personal Saviour. (https://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/1094/1094_01.asp)

Do that and, according to Jack T. Chick, you’re saved and your future is secure as he also says!chick tracts In other words, you are guaranteed heaven after death, because of your moment of faith, with NO repentance and the theory of once saved always saved! You will go to heaven, he says! (See image to right.) To reap eternal life, according to the Bible, other truths must be considered! Should we all forget about the following:

  • repent [turn from evil] or perish (Lk. 13:3,5; 2 Pet. 3:9; etc.),
  • repent and believe the gospel (Mk. 1:15),
  • repentance towards God and faith in Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21),
  • enduring to the end to be saved (Mt. 10:22; Heb. 3:14; Rev. 2:10,11),
  • bringing forth fruit so you won’t be severed from Christ and thrown into fire (Jn. 15:1-6),
  • the danger of becoming lukewarm and getting vomited out of the body of Christ (Rev. 3:16),
  • holding on to what you have so no man will take your crown (Rev. 3:11),
  • not disowning Jesus, for he will disown all who disown him (Mt. 10:33),
  • sowing to please the Spirit to reap eternal life (Gal. 6:8,9),
  • keeping yourself pure (1 Tim. 5:22)

Like so many others, Chick emphasizes God will never leave or forsake you, but ignores other related Scriptures! Note the following pertinent verse:

For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They [the faithful ones] will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off; (Psa 37:28)

Sometimes Chick will teach NO repentance for salvation, then mention being willing to turn from evil for salvation in the same booklet! He has a double message.

Chick’s Two Question Checklist

Chick also has his two-question checklist so a person can remember when God allegedly saved his soul. What are the vital salvation questions, according to Chick’s list?chick-tracts

Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you?

Did you ask Him to come into your heart to save you?

Folks, demons know Jesus died on the cross for our sins. Also, you can teach a parrot to ask Jesus to come into his heart! The truth is, we must turn from our idols to serve God (1 Thess. 1:9). Turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus was Paul’s message  (Acts 20:21). Also, the Lord Jesus didn’t make salvation as easy or guaranteed as Jack Chick:

Not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.  (Mat 7:21)

He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.” (Luke 8:21)

Chick’s salvation teachings are actually counterproductive to Christian evangelism based on the aforementioned. Why? chick tractsBecause they misinform the readers about salvation. His easy believism and once saved always saved messages are soul poison. That is enough to never use them again, but there is even more reason why Chick booklets should be rejected!

Chick’s KJV Onlyism

Jack T. Chick promotes the absurd, outlandish and indefensible KJV Onlyism concept with propaganda and distortions! The truth is the modern reputable translations reveal the deity of Christ more than the King James Bible, though Chick teaches otherwise! (See Chick’s booklet, The Attack below.) Moreover, the modern reputable translations do NOT downplay the virgin birth or salvation through grace! Jack Chick is clearly wrong. If Jack T. Chick had his way, dear reader, you would be unsuccessfully struggling to understand the incomprehensible and frustrating archaic Elizabethan language of the 17th century used by William Shakespeare!chick-kjv-only You would also view all of the modern reputable translations as tools of the devil, since Chick thinks only the KJV is the word of God! If you get deceived by Jack T. Chick in that way, you will confront various KJV translational errors and the dozens of KJV words which changed their meanings since the 17th century! That alone will give one a distorted view of God’s truth. A few examples are:

  • Gay clothing (James 2:3, KJV) but such is NOT homosexual clothing, as people might think in our day. It is clothing worn by the rich, as shown in the modern reputable translations.
  • God repents of evil (Jonah 3:10, KJV) and is very pitiful (James 5:11, KJV). This is a blasphemous misrepresentation of the all-knowing God taken at face value!
  • Jesus was “slew,” then hung on a tree (Acts 5:30; 10:39, KJV)! Even children know David “slew” (or killed) Goliath with a slingshot and stone. If people understand the KJV word “slew” in those verses from Acts to mean the same, then they interpret the KJV to say Jesus was dead BEFORE he was nailed to the cross! Furthermore the word “slew” is used repeatedly in the KJV New Testament and understood as “kill” (Mt. 2:16; 22:6; 23:35; Lk. 13:4; Acts 22:20; 1 John 3:12)! Again, to think Jesus was killed before he was nailed to the cross is a MAJOR heresy in the KJV, which is supposed to be God’s inspired, only and preserved word!

Chick tracts propagate all the above deceptions. Furthermore, Chick’s KJV only propaganda denies the 1611 KJV had the demonic Apocrypha in it, that Erasmus was a Catholic monk who never left Catholicism and dedicated the first edition of the Textus Receptus to the Pope, etc.! Chick teaches the Textus Receptus is non-Catholic, but that too is a fallacy!

In summary, to the detriment of souls, the fictional Chick tracts, with quality artwork, are read and distributed as though they are absolute truth and straight from God! That is VERY SAD because their DECEIVING message is sometimes far from reality and deadly! Chick tracts are NOT always Biblically sound and can be counterproductive to God’s kingdom. They should NOT be used in evangelism or taken as factual. You have been warned!

Nebuchadnezzar: A Real 6 Foot Tall Birdman

God judges people because of sin in a wide variety of ways. Sometimes he will strike them dead, as he did with Ananias and Sapphira for lying, but at other times he uses other methods as with Nebuchadnezzar because of pride. wild donkeysGod gave Nebuchadnezzar the mind of an animal, a partial appearance of a bird and he lived with the wild donkeys for 7 years!

Immediately what had been said about Nebuchadnezzar was fulfilled. He was driven away from people and ate grass like cattle. His body was drenched with the dew of heaven until his hair grew like the feathers of an eagle and his nails like the claws of a bird. (Dan 4:33)

He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like cattle; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and sets over them anyone he wishes. (Dan 5:21)

At that time, Nebuchadnezzar was the world’s most power man! Regardless, his sin of pride brought him very low!

Twelve months later, as the king was walking on the roof of the royal palace of Babylon, he [Nebuchadnezzar] said, “Is not this the great Babylon I have built as the royal residence, by my mighty power and for the glory of my majesty?” (Dan 4:30)

He was greatly humbled as he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like cattle! Imagine that! Besides losing his sanity, God also changed his digestive system to be able to derive nutrients from grass. Furthermore, Nebuchadnezzar never got pneumonia when his body got drenched with dew. That went on for 7 years! NOTE: the omniscient God knew what he would choose to do in the future before it happened. Nebuchadnezzar’s free will didn’t change that. Clearly, there is NO open theism, which is a hit on God’s unique ability to know the future perfectly. What reversed Nebuchadnezzar’s situation was when he lifted his eyes to heaven and acknowledged that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes. At that point, his sanity was restored and he was changed back from a 6 foot tall bird man to a normal looking man again:

At the end of that time, I, Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. (Dan 4:34)

Let his mind be changed from that of a man and let him be given the mind of an animal, till seven times pass by for him. (Dan 4:16)

You will be driven away from people and will live with the wild animals; you will eat grass like cattle and be drenched with the dew of heaven. Seven times will pass by for you until you acknowledge that the Most High is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes. (Dan 4:25)

Had you lived during that 7 year period and heard the report of a 6 foot tall bird, which ate grass, you might have scoffed in disbelief, but it was reality! God humbled the proud Nebuchadnezzar as he does all proud people. Learn a lesson here about how God views the sin of pride and resist that satanic temptation. Dear reader, you have NOTHING that God didn’t give you or empower you with the ability to achieve. No one, therefore,, has any just cause to be proud and neither did Nebuchadnezzar even at the height of his power!
