Cannibalism is back in the news! It seems to be on the rise. Jeffrey Dahmer shocked our society when he was caught in 1991. 
He admitted to killing 17 men and boys and eating their flesh. Others have attacked and eaten human flesh while their victims were alive! Now we have Gilberto Valle, the NYPD “Cannibal Cop.” In a chat room, Gilberto Valle stated he was planning to abduct and eat his girl victims:
“I’m planning on getting me some girl meat,” Valle allegedly wrote in one chat room. “It’s this November, for Thanksgiving. … She’s not a volunteer. She has to be abducted.” (http://news.yahoo.com/nyc-policemans-cannibal-plot-trial-set-start-113732617.html)
Wickedness is increasing, just as the Bible says:
Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. (Mat 24:12)
while evil men and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Tim 3:13)
Cannibalism did occur in Israel’s history:
Then he asked her, “What’s the matter?” She answered, “This woman said to me, ‘Give up your son so we may eat him today, and tomorrow we’ll eat my son.’ So we cooked my son and ate him. The next day I said to her, ‘Give up your son so we may eat him,’ but she had hidden him.” (2 Ki 6:28, 29)
That mother killed and ate her son, sharing his flesh with another woman!
God’s Judgment of Cannibalism
Here is a glimpse of the God of the Bible and how he may judge people at times with cannibalism:
If in spite of this you still do not listen to me but continue to be hostile toward me, then in my anger I will be hostile toward you, and I myself will punish you for your sins seven times over. You will eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters. (Lev 26:27-29)
But this is what the LORD says: “Yes, captives will be taken from warriors, and plunder retrieved from the fierce; I will contend with those who contend with you, and your children I will save. I will make your oppressors eat their own flesh; they will be drunk on their own blood, as with wine. Then all mankind will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.” (Isa 49:25,26)
I will make them eat the flesh of their sons and daughters, and they will eat one another’s flesh during the stress of the siege imposed on them by the enemies who seek their lives. (Jer 19:9)
Even the most gentle and sensitive man among you will have no compassion on his own brother or the wife he loves or his surviving children, and he will not give to one of them any of the flesh of his children that he is eating. It will be all he has left because of the suffering your enemy will inflict on you during the siege of all your cities. (Deu 28:54,55)
People will soon forget about Gilberto Valle, his cannibal desires and this blog post, but they better not forget about God!
How You Treat God Is How God Will Treat You
- If you come near to God, he will come near to you (James 4:8)
- If you acknowledge Jesus before men, he will also acknowledge you before the Father. (Mat 10:32)
- If you remain in Jesus, he will remain in you. (John 15:4)
- If you are ashamed of him and his words, he’ll be ashamed of you (Luke 9:26)
- If you forsake God, he will forsake you. (2 Chronicles 15:2)
- If you disown Jesus, he will disown you. (Mat 10:33)
- If you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (Mat 6:14)
- If you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Mat 6:15)
- If you are hostile towards God, he will be hostile towards you. (Lev 26:27-29)
When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me. So I will come upon them like a lion, like a leopard I will lurk by the path. Like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will attack them and rip them open. Like a lion I will devour them; a wild animal will tear them apart. (Hosea 13:6-8)
