To be the cause of another to sin is very serious. In fact, it is so grave that the Lord Jesus repeatedly mentioned it and even gave the following warning to those who had been saved:
Jesus said to his disciples: “Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves.” (Luke 17:1-3)
In other words, it is better to die physically than to be the cause of such, clearly showing sin is the still the issue. How strange it must be for some to hear that truth in our day. Our immoral society doesn’t care about their own heinous sins at all, and even openly brags about them at times! But their immorality and ignorance doesn’t change anything, as far as the holy God is concerned. To be the cause of another to sin is something you definitely don’t want on your record, especially if it is one of the little ones who believe in Jesus:
But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! If your hand or your foot causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell. (Mat 18:6-9)
Being an immoral example, as King David was when he became an adulterer and murderer, can be the cause of another to sin. Another way is wearing immodest apparel, which may tempt another to lust. An example of that is especially wearing a bathing suit at a public swimming pool or at the beach. Even divorcing your spouse can cause him/her to commit adultery (Mat. 5:32). Guard your heart carefully. This life is a test. Only the overcomers will enter God’s kingdom. All others will go to the fiery furnace (Mat. 13:41,42).
