The Danger Surrounding The Gospel
There is no doubt that the aforementioned are brave and doing dangerous secular work, but there is another type of unsafe job (given to every Christian), which is even more dangerous! That job and most important spiritual responsibility is to spread the gospel message. That job is unquestionably the most dangerous job in this world, though it is primarily unrecognized because of all the counterfeits in our day! In fact, everything around the true gospel message also carries potential spiritual and physical lethal danger! Bible truth reveals danger exists for:
- those who try to stop others from hearing the gospel, for they heap their sins up to the limit by doing so (1 Thess. 2:16)
- those who stop preaching the true gospel to preach a false gospel (Gal. 1:8,9 cf. 2 Pet. 2:1) will be condemned
- those who preach the true gospel will be persecuted and sometimes unto death, as Stephen was.
Again, all the righteous have been entrusted with the gospel and will account to God one day for that most important trust. It takes courage to be faithful to this trust. (Remember, the cowardly will go to the lake of fire, Rev. 21:8.) What makes the one and only salvation message so valuable is the power that is associated with it for all who receive it — those radically changed by the power of God and set free from their sin addictions. Such new creations in Christ are changed from darkness to light, from death to life and from the power of Satan to the power of God because they acted on the one and only gospel. How the devil must hate the faithful gospel preacher, who preaches the gospel with its conditional security for the believer in Christ:
By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. (1 Cor 15:2)
An imposter, one who claims to be preaching the gospel of grace but isn’t, is declaring a powerless gospel and a false hope. Such a salvation message, which won’t change anyone spiritually and alert them to lethal dangers, is more deadly than poisoned food. Such a counterfeit “gospel” is no gospel at all! Rather than good news, it is only a false and empty hope for salvation. Such preachers are a dangerous snare to one’s soul while he doesn’t endanger his own physical life with such a message. For example, smiley Joel Osteen, who avoids preaching against sin and the vital need to repent, has a large following with his powerless counterfeit gospel. There is a lot of money to be made in false gospel teaching and too many have gone the way of Balaam (2 Pet. 2:15) to get it at the expense of their SOUL!
The primary danger in preaching God’s word is spiritual, though physical danger and martyrdom certainly exist. If one is a Christian, he better spread and protect this one and only message of salvation. If one doesn’t preach the gospel accurately, or not at all to avoid persecution, woe unto him (Gal. 1:8,9;1 Cor. 9:16)! Finally, all who claim to preach the Christian gospel, but distort it somehow, will go to hell just for that single reason (Gal. 1:8,9). Since going to the lake of fire is the greatest danger which exists, preaching the true gospel of Jesus Christ is the most dangerous job in the world. It will bring persecution on the faithful here, and if done wrongly will send the preacher to eternal fire! No other dangerous job can compare with gospel preaching.
