Strange to Christians, but basic in Islam is the idea that the Comforter in John 16:7 is Mohammed! Is that a viable possibility, according to the Bible?
John 16:7 Says
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. (KJV)
So who would not come unless the Lord Jesus left the world, according to John 16:7? The answer is clearly revealed in the context:
I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:12,13)
The Comforter Is The Holy Spirit
The Spirit of truth (or Comforter) is the Holy Spirit and that is proven by looking at other verses regarding him. John 14:26 is the KEY:
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (John 14:26, KJV)
That could not be more clear. The Comforter is the Holy Spirit and not Mohammed. The various characteristics of the Comforter also excludes the founder of Islam and shows it is not based on God’s word. Though this is clear to Christians, Muslims were also wrongly taught the Bible has been corrupted (just like the Mormons were taught). Muslims will use any Biblical verse (like John 16:7), if it can be twisted to support Islam, but reject all the verses which teach otherwise, especially showing that Jesus is the son of God (Jn. 3:16; 1 Jn. 5:10; etc.) and deity (Jn. 1:1; 20:28; etc.). Here is a passage which shows both:
We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true–even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. (1 John 5:20)
Do YOU know Jesus? Clearly, the Comforter is the Holy Spirit and is not related to Mohammed.
