Antjuan Miguel Colvin, 21, from California decided to end his life by parking his car on an Amtrak railroad crossing. When the speeding train hit his car at 75 mph he died. He left a suicide note on Facebook just prior to his death:
To all my friends and family on Facebook. Thank you all you have all made an impact on my life some of you good some of you not but you all are loved I hope you all have wonderful lives. I know its not my time to go but I cannot take living any longer. So as of tonight I will end my life. Again thank you for being apart of my life. Merry Christmas ……. Goodbye. Like many others, Antjuan Miguel Colvin is a very sad case and tragedy of a wasted life.
Apparently, like all suicides, Antjuan Miguel Colvin saw no hope and purpose to continue on living. Without God there is no peace within and no rest for the soul (Mt. 11:28,29). Christians on the other hand have that plus an extremely important purpose to live, that is, to do the will of God here and now where it is desperately needed. We are God’s fellow workers (2 Cor. 6:1) in this sin-filled deceived world. We need to shine out God’s gospel light for the sake of all who are lovers of truth. Many people are without hope in our current economic Depression and wrongly think the best way out to escape their pain and misery is suicide, especially if coupled with a belief in eternal security. Even the Bible cites examples of suicides who must have likewise thought I cannot take living any longer. Please, if the devil tempts you to murder yourself steadfastly resist his temptations. Do not ponder suicide for a moment. We Christians are told to set our hearts and minds on things above and not on earthly things:
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. (Col 3:1,2)
To set your mind on earthly things can easily bring you down to hopelessness and discouragement. Be spiritually far-sighted and think beyond the grave. Live in light of eternity. This life is very short in comparison to eternity. Don’t be another suicide statistic, especially around Christmas when suicides increase. Remember Rev. 21:1-8.
